Yes - the fountain works well in a sheltered or covered outdoor area, like a covered patio or undercover entertaining space. We'd recommend keeping it out of direct sun and rain and cleaning it a little more frequently if it's outside. The main habit is simple: change the water every 3 days and give the bowl a quick rinse while you're at it. Once a week, do a full clean - the bowl, tray, and filter components are all dishwasher-safe, or you can wash by hand with mild soap. The pump module is hand-wash only; remove it, rinse it, and it's done in under a minute.

One thing worth knowing: no fountain - ours included - can completely prevent natural build-up over time. Saliva, fur, and airborne particles will still make their way in, especially in busier households. The difference is that circulating, filtered water slows this process significantly compared to a still bowl. Regular cleaning keeps everything fresh and running well.

The Luvwoof fountain has three modes, selectable with a single button press:

Motion-Activated Mode (recommended for most dogs) - the built-in infrared sensor detects when your dog approaches and starts the water flowing, then stops once they move away. It's the most natural experience for your dog - water appears when they want it, not all day when they don't. It's also the best mode for battery life, lasting up to 80 days per charge in light use.

Timed Mode - the fountain flows intermittently throughout the day. No sensor needed - water circulates on a regular rhythm regardless of whether your dog is nearby.

Continuous Mode - water flows constantly, like a running tap. Requires the fountain to be plugged into a wall outlet via the included USB-C adapter. The best option for multi-pet households, or if you just want it always flowing without thinking about it.

The pump runs very quietly - most owners describe it as barely noticeable, and measures at about 30Db. It is designed for indoor home use without being disruptive.

On a full charge the fountain runs for approximately 30 - 80 days depending on usage. A low battery indicator lets you know when it's time to recharge. On sensor mode it will last up to 80 days.
